The direct heating method used on system D UHT Plants gives very high product quality. The integral steam injector and a flash cooler provide very short residence times in the temperature intensive zones. This does mean, however, that the efficiency of this treatment method is lower than the indirect heating principle and any steam applied must be of food grade quality.
